Cumberland—Gladys Marie “Nan” “Sis” Powers, 85, of Cumberland, passed away Monday, March 21, 2016, at the Lions Center following a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She has now joined her husband after 49 years of marriage.
Born in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Esther Anna (Kerns) Glaze, Sr. Sis attended school in Romney, WV. She was employed as a caretaker for the sick and elderly. Sis was a homemaker who enjoyed decorating, shopping, and taking care of her grandchildren and her cats.
In addition to her parents, Sis was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Donald “Bob” Powers, after 49 years of marriage; brothers, Marvin Glaze, Herbert Glaze, and John Henry Glaze; step-brother, Walter Glaze, Jr; and step-sisters, Georgie Burdock, Beatrice Whitacre, and Merle Beal.
She is survived by her son, Charles E. “Rusty” Powers and wife Lois, Hyndman; grandchildren, Brian J. Powers, Cumberland, Craig J. Powers, Cumberland, and Amanda M. Luckett and husband Greg, Ellerslie; great-grandchildren, Mathew Powers, Dacota Powers, Hailey Roache, Emily Luckett, and Olivia Luckett; step-great-grandchildren, Scarlett Haines and Avery Luckett; sisters, Ethel Swan, Oakland, Linda Riggleman and husband Fred, Cumberland, Ruby Gilpin, Cumberland, and Eva Sebold, Greenspring, WV; and brother, Richard Glaze and wife Nora, Greenspring, WV. Sis is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Wednesday, March 23, from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. The funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday, March 24, at 1 P.M. with Rev. Fred Iser.
Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
