Nettleton – Johnnie Mae Young, 92, passed away March 22, 2016 at The Meadows in Fulton. She was born Christmas Day, 1923 to Wilbur Walker and Minnie Bell Ridings in Itawamba County, Mississippi. One October 30, 1943 she married James. B. Young and they were married 65 years until his death in 2008. They were long-time residents of Nettleton and faithful members of Nettleton Methodist Church. Before her retirement, she was employed by Nettleton Elementary School Cafeteria and previously Reed Mfg. She was a sweet spirited soul, with a ready smile and kind word for everyone, always in the spirit of Christian love. Family time and cooking (especially) desserts) were very special to her. She and James enjoyed traveling, camping, and fishing with family and their Nettleton buddies. Many grand and hilarious stories can be told about camping and fishing adventures at J.P. Coleman State Park.
A service celebrating her life will be Friday, March 25th at 2:00 p.m. in the Nettleton Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Jimmy Bryan officiating. Visitation on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to service time on Friday. Private burial will follow in the Carolina Community Cemetery.
She is survived by her son Terry (Teresa) Young of Nettleton; daughter Pat (Hoyt) Hubbard of Red Bay, AL; grandchildren, Terileigh Young of Nettleton Kari (Phil) Oldham of Cookeville, TN, Eric Hubbard of Murray, KY, Samantha (James) Ricks of Nettleton; Great Grandchildren, Sam and Audrey Oldham, Asah Hubbard, Cassie and Luke Ricks, several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, James; her parents; brothers, Curry, Douglas, and Mitchell Ridings, and sister, Lucille Bathay.
