Charles “Chuck” Emmett McMullen, 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 20.

He was born on June 4, 1930 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Gladys Parks McMullen and Charles Edward McMullen.

Chuck married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Rose, on April 8, 1951 who preceded him in death in 2014.

After graduating in 1948 from Roosevelt High School as a member of the National Thespian Society, he went to work at Heuer Publishing and Art Craft Play Company.

From 1951-1953, he served in the U.S. Army at Fort Jackson, SC (Korean Conflict/Dental Corp.).

When he returned from service, he went back to work at the publishing companies which he later owned until his retirement in 2004.

Chuck was an animal lover, lover of hiking, tennis, biking, Kernels baseball, Hawkeye sports and Cuban cigars. Above all else, he loved a good bottle of wine and a walk in the park. If you were to ask him about his fishing or golfing experiences, he’d swear a few times as if you were out of earshot, and finish the statement with, “I was good!”

While an Iowa boy at heart, Chuck was proud of his service in the Army and loved his trips to the Great Smoky Mountains and Florida. A long-standing member of the Elks Lodge and former member of Elmcrest Country Club, Chuck is survived by his goddaughter, Geri Albrecht, and the most wonderful friends in the world including a small group of friends Chuck and Pattie lovingly referred to as “The Christmas Dinner Gang.” Also, many, many thanks to Heritage Nursing & Rehab Center for their abundant love and care of Chuck.

Chuck’s parting quote:
One day at a time - this is enough. Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone…And do not be troubled about the future, for it has not yet come. Live in the present, and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering. -Ida Scott Taylor

In lieu of flowers, please register or volunteer for your local Walk to End Alzheimer’s, or donate to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
