Meritorious Service Medal
The United States of America to all who shall see these presents Greeting
This is to certify that the President of the United States of America authorized by Executive Order, has awarded THE MERITORIOUS SERVICE MEDAL (Second Oak Leaf Cluster) TO Lieutenant Colonel Tyson W. Hummel for Meritorious Service 29 December 2009 to 31 October 2014.
Lieutenant Colonel Tyson W. Hummel distinguished himself in the performance of outstanding service to the United States in various positions culminating as Inspector General, 432d Wing/432d Air Expeditionary Wing, Creech Air Force Base, Nevada. During this period, Colonel Hummel flew five hundred combat support hours in support of Operations NEW DAWN, ENDURING FREEDOM and UNIFIED PROTECTOR. On two separate Libya "hunter-killer" missions, he successfully employed weapons, destroying a multiple rocket launcher and a technical vehicle. Colonel Hummel also provided laser targeting for F-16s in Afghanistan, enabling four enemy-killed-in action that included one high-value-individual. Moreover, as Wing Operations Center Mission Director, he skillfully coordinated sixty-one daily combat air patrols across four areas of responsibility, supporting Combatant Commanders at the highest rate seen in the remotely piloted aircraft community at that time. Further as the Inspector General, Colonel Hummel deftly handed over one hundred cases, including two critical presidential and three congressional complaints. Finally, he expertly led the 432d Wing's implementation of the new Air Force Inspection System, fundamentally altering how inspections will be completed in the future and allowing the system's stand up a full year early. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Colonel Hummel culminate a distinguished career in the service of his country and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force. James R. Cluff, Colonel, USAF Commander
