Donna Rae (Chaboya) Brady
Nov. 9, 1926 - Mar. 20, 2016
Resident of Los Gatos

Donna Rae (Chaboya) Brady, born 11/9/26, passed into the abiding care of her Lord with her spirit at ease, her mind at peace, and her heart full of love on March 20, 2016. She passed comfortably with one last gentle breath. Her family and devoted caregiver surrounded her. By turns, they held her hand, stroked her brow, and whispered words of comfort and gratitude for the wonderful woman that she was.

Donna was predeceased by her beloved husband of 67 years, Warren Francis Brady, on March 13th, 2015. Her steady decline began the day she lost him. On the one-year anniversary of his death, she exhibited a marked change in health; it was clear she was longing to join him and, within a week, she did.

Her passing completes the circle of an astounding love affair that was apparent to all that came in contact with this awe-inspiring couple. From the time they met at San Jose State University in 1944 until they parted, they were in love. They delighted in raising their children, getting together with extended family, seeing their grandchildren become happy adults, and watching their great grandchildren at play.

They enjoyed a lovely retirement together with travel, golf, music and dancing, their love of sports (49ers, Giants, and Warriors) and long hours spent simply talking. They were never without words, joy, tenderness, and care for one another. Their final years together were spent holding hands, sitting side by side in the sanctuary of their double-reclining love-seat. It was often asked what the secret was to their everlasting love. "Humor" was always their reply, "and champagne," that last phrase their code word for romantic evenings. Warren always said, "It is Donna's positive attitude and laughter that sees this family through."

Donna was an extraordinary wife to Warren, who was often challenged by health issues. Her unparalleled level of care, which was always provided with a smile and compassion, is legendary. She nursed him through tuberculosis early in their marriage, severe allergies, heart bypass, and post-polio syndrome in his final days. Her energetic resolve, coupled with his loving gratitude, created a vibrant unity that brought joy to others.

That same joy and devotion was given to her three children in equal measure. She was the quintessential stay-at-home mom of her time. She attended every football game, every swim competition, every baseball game. She was a Room Mother several times over. She drove on the field trips, held the stopwatch, and baked the cupcakes. Smiling all the time. She helped with homework, special projects, and science fairs. Beaming with pride all the while. She searched for the perfect prom dress, threw the best birthday parties, and made the most killer pancakes. She fixed broken toys, flat tires, skinned knees, and even helped with broken hearts. Loving us gave her true joy and we felt it. She was tireless, selfless, and loving; she was the strongest woman any of us has ever known.

Donna Brady is survived by her son, Scott Brady and his wife, Vasyla; her daughter Kathy Brady; her daughter Karey Brady Russell and her husband, Kevin; her grandson Luke Darling and fiance, Allyson Hess; her granddaughter Wendy Darling and fiance, Conor Leary; her granddaughter Vayola Brady and partner, Nikki Searle; her grand-daughter Alena Brady; and great-grandchildren, Baer Darling and Roxanne Darling. She also leaves behind 14 nieces and nephews and their many children.

Visitation is from 5 to 9 pm at Darling-Fischer Chapel of the Hills in Los Gatos with a Rosary at 6 pm, March 23rd. Services will be held at 1 pm, March 24th, at The Los Gatos Memorial Park in Los Gatos.
