Phyllis Feroe Brown passed away on May 12, 2015 at the age of 95. A Seattle native she was the daughter of Alfred and Idah Feroe and grew up with sisters Ruth and BettyLee. She attended Seattle schools, graduating from Lincoln High where she forged lifelong friendships and developed a love of music through her participation in the choir and orchestra.
Her pursuit of a music degree at the U of W was interrupted by her marriage to Army pilot, Marvin Walseth, who spirited her off to Alaska where he was based. Sadly he was killed in WW II combat but he left Phyllis, then back in Seattle, with a lovely daughter Jeri Lynn (1942-2009.)
She returned to the U of W, to complete her music program, where she met and married Don Brown. Daughter Jeri was soon joined by sisters Kathy Dennis (Steve), Patti Reid (Mike), Brenda Brown (Dean) and brother Bruce Brown (Carol.) Phyllis and Don enjoyed 65 years together.
In 1948 they moved to a home on Haller Lake that became an ideal place to raise a family and a gathering place for friends and family for 65 years. She cultivated her love of gardening in the home's expansive gardens and shared her love of music with hundreds of neighborhood young people who stopped after school for piano or violin lessons in her living room. She was a community booster and active member of the Haller Lake Community Club for decades.
In their retirement years they began spending the fall months in Honolulu where she developed a whole new group of close friends.
She was active in the Haller Lake Music and Art Group, the Haller Lake Garden Club and the Lincoln High alumni association.
Phyllis will be missed by her 13 grandchildren, scores of great-grandchildren and friends and family from all over the country. It was said she could board an elevator with strangers and step off with friends. She was outgoing, gracious and an incredible example of the best of the greatest generation.
