May 6, 1917 - March 20, 2016
Quitaque, Texas

On March 20, 2016, Ruby Mae McKay Woods, age 98, passed from her earthly life to join her Lord and her beloved husband. Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 25, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Quitaque with Mike Vestal. Interment will follow at the Resthaven Cemetery in Quitaque. Visitation will be prior to the service from 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. at the Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Quitaque. Arrangements are under the care of Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Quitaque.

She was born May 6th, 1917, in Fulbright, Red River County, Texas, to Delbert McKay and Lily Ethel Rutherford McKay. The family moved to the Texas Panhandle and settled in the community of Wolf Flat. Ruby Mae attended school there until her family moved to Fairmont. She graduated from Flomot High School and worked in Quitaque where she met the love of her life, Preston "Shorty" Oren Woods. They married on November 17, 1937 in Turkey, Texas and settled on a farm north of Quitaque.

Ruby Mae, being the eldest, continued to help her mother, five brothers and a sister, while working alongside her husband. When her father passed away in 1941, her sister, Alline, came to live with them. She was only thirteen and grew to love Ruby Mae not only as a sister, but as a mother and best friend. This special relationship was a blessing and grace to both sisters throughout their lives.

The couple worked side by side farming, raising their family, worshiping their God, helping their families, and always being there for those in need. They struggled through hard times together, enjoyed the good times, and loved each other with all their hearts in a marriage that lasted over fifty years. After Shorty passed away in 1998, she enjoyed her family, friends, flowers, travel, and baking cookies for everyone.

Ruby Mae is survived by her daughter, Sharon Corgill of Midland, her son and his wife, Terry and Nancy Woods of Lubbock, her sister, Alline Hicks of Kermit, and her brother and his wife, Howard and Alva McKay of Kermit. Two grandchildren live in Midland, Rodney and his wife, Cindy Corgill, and Roy Dean Corgill. Two other grandchildren live in Durango, Colorado, Ashley and her husband, Tom Geyer, and Trevor and his wife, Ginny Woods. In addition, there are eight great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

In memorial, contributions may be made to the Resthaven Cemetery Association through the First National Bank in Quitaque, Texas.
