Gary Rayford Yates, 71, of Sophia, died Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 25, 2016, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel,. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park with military honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard.

A native of Randolph County, Mr. Yates was born November 19, 1944 to the late Dalton and Nona Yates. He graduated from Randleman High School and was retired from Directional Furniture in High Point. Mr. Yates was of the Baptist faith and was a avid Carolina Tarheel fan.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Yates was preceded in death by his daughter, Crystal Yates; grandson, Matthew Yates; and brother, Ervin Yates.

He is survived by his daughter, Lori Yates Hill and husband, Stephen of Sophia; sister, Margaret Yates Honeycutt of Archdale; brother, Darrell Yates and wife, Nancy of High Point; grandchildren, Tara Hill, Brandon Hill, Miranda Hill; and great-granddaughter, Kiley Shanburg.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 1:45 p.m., Friday, Ridge Funeral Home, prior to the service.
