Charlie R. Lewis, 88, of Rocky Ford passed away unexpectedly on March 17, 2016 at the Parkview Medical Center. He was born on February 26, 1928 in Alamo, Colorado to William James & Zella May (Singleterry) Lewis.



He graduated from Huerfano County High School in May 14, 1942. After graduation he worked as a farm and ranch hand and then was drafted into the Army and was stationed in Taegu, Korea with the service company 1st Infantry Regiment driving a truck. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal. He returned home and began driving trucks for Huerfano Freight Line of Walsenburg, CO and eventually went to work for Wright Motor Lines in Rocky Ford and then became a owner/operator.



In his retired years he enjoyed riding his horses and helping with branding and also loved participating in the local parades. He also enjoyed the coffee shop talk and will be missed dearly by his family and friends.



He is survived by his wife, Alma (Inskeep) Lewis of La Junta; his seven children, Linda Roberts, Alan Lewis, Warren Lewis, Lori Kitzman, Leola Kelley, and twins, Ralph and Randal Lewis; 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, five siblings and also a great-granddaughter.



In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Lupus Foundation, 7853 E. Arapahoe Court, Suite 3100, Centennial, CO, 80112 direct or through the funeral home.
