Opal M. Horton, 88, passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2016 in Abilene.

Visitation for family and friends will be 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM, Thursday, March 24, 2016 at McCoy's Funeral Home in Sweetwater, TX followed by a 2:00 PM graveside funeral service at the Sweetwater City Cemetery under the direction of Elmwood Funeral Home.

Opal was born May 7, 1927 in Ben Wheeler, TX to parents, Winship and Dovie Petty. In her younger years she grew up in East Texas where she enjoyed playing her guitar and singing.

She married at a young age and began a family. After relocating to Sweetwater she opened two craft stores where she enjoyed meeting and talking with friends. Later, she moved to Abilene and enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.

She loved the Lord and serving him was always a priority in her life. She always enjoyed her Bible reading and in her later years, when she wasn't able to attend church, she always enjoyed watching church programs and singings on television. She enjoyed gardening, flowerbeds, crafts, and making porcelain dolls.

She is survived by her children, Doris Harvey and husband Sam of Sweetwater, Clyde (Winn) Head and wife Bonnie of Granbury, Sherene Templet and husband Warren of Roby, Teddy Head and wife Shelley of Victoria, Celia Rasberry and husband Freddie of Roby, Kenny Head of Abilene; 13 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great grandchildren.

Opal was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; four sisters; and three husbands, Finus Rushing, Jim Horton, and C.W. Head.
