She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward L Gilbert and daughter, Susan and her parents, Fred V. Peter and Donna Arline Peter, and her step-mother, Kathryn Peter. She is survived by her daughters, Edith and Nancy, and her sons, Edward (Linda), Stephen (Barbara) and Laurence (Darleen), her sister Mary Kay (Gene) Brieser and her brother, James (Marilyn) Peter and her cat, Garibaldi as well as numerous nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She earned her Bachelors degree in Sociology from the University of Illinois, her Masters degree in Library Science from the University of Illinois and her Masters degree in Multimedia Education from The Ohio State University. She was a librarian for several years at Jones Junior High School in Upper Arlington and opened the new media center at Westerville North High School where she was the media specialist for many years. She accompanied her husband and family as an Air Force wife on tours of duty in Anchorage, Alaska; London, England; Ankara, Turkey as well as several US postings. She belonged to the First Presbyterian Church of Delaware, Ohio, where she sang in the choir for many years. She was a member of American Association of University Women (AAUW), Altrusa, First Families of Ohio, First Families of Illinois and the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She was a strong supporter of public radio and television - rarely missing her weekly episode of Masterpiece Theatre.
