A native of the Ringgold area, he lived in Pensacola, FL, for 58 years and had lived in Ringgold for the past five years, where he was a member of Boynton Baptist Church.
He was a retired employee of the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, FL.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Seigers Akins; parents, John and Nellie Gray Akins; brother, Reynold Akins; and three sisters, Ellen Kettler, Bess Gappard and Myrtle Adair.
He is survived by one brother, Kenneth Gray Akins, of Ringgold, GA; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the graveside at Anderson Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 4-9 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
