Rev. Dale J Barnett, 80, of Beatrice passed away Sunday, March 6, 2016. He was born July 20, 1935 at Kansas City, MO to George and Nellie Barnett.

He graduated from Shawnee Mission High School in 1954 and from Midland Lutheran College in Fremont in 1959 with a Bachelor’s Degree in English and Sociology. He attended Central Lutheran Theological Seminary in Fremont and was ordained in 1963.

He married Lavone Halseth in 1958.

He served congregations in Iowa, Kansas and Missouri before moving to Nebraska where he served at Grace Lutheran Church in Lexington and Emmanuel Lutheran Church of rural Beatrice. He developed Peace Lutheran Church in Branson, MO and was instrumental in establishing Metropolitan Lutheran Ministry in Kansas City. He also served on the Central States Synod Board as secretary and the Board of Bethany College in Lindsborg, KS.

Survivors include his wife, Lavone of Beatrice; two daughters, Jennifer (Greg) Gieschen of Overland Park, KS and Maureen (Wayne) Moore of Rock Port, MO; one brother, David (Tara) Barnett of Paola, KS; grandchildren, Matthew Gieschen and fiancée Monica Lani of Chicago, IL, Natalie (Doug) Fye of Olathe, KS and Jeffrey (Bianca) Jones of Rock Port, MO; great grandchildren, Jaylynn Jones, Jagger Jones, and Liliana Fye; step-grandchildren, Coby (Kerry) Moore of St. Joseph, MO and Taya (Phil) Ray of Trenton, MO; step-great-grandchildren, Brielle Moore, Alexandra Moore, Caleb Ray and Brooklynn Ray; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at St. John Lutheran Church, 701 N. 6th, Beatrice with Pastor Greg Gabriel and Pastor Myron Meyer officiating. Cremation will follow the services and inurnment will be held at a later date. A family prayer service will be held on Wednesday at 1:15 P.M. in the church chapel. A memorial has been established to the family’s choice. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice until 9:00 P.M. Tuesday and at the church one hour preceding the services on Wednesday. A guestbook for signatures and messages of condolence is available online at www.foxfuneralhome.net.
