One geneologist gave me the date 1814 for his birthday but all on the censuses he reported his age variously having been born from 1821 to 1815, but most frequently 1818 and 1817. He married Mary Elizabeth Mecker on July 24, 1854 probably in Utica. They didn't have any children. He lived in Utica, New York most of his life and established a successful clothing store there--J. M. Rice and Company. He died September 8, 1875 and was buried in the Rice Lot in Forest Hills Cemetery in
