Tonia was born in Grant County, on Feb. 18, 1965, to Robert "Bob" Bush and Jane (Sheets) Ward, and her father preceded her in death. She married Brian Johnson and he survives. She loved country music, and was a fan of Tim McGraw.
Tonia suffered from Friedrich's ataxia, a congenital nervous system disorder. She could not use her legs and had limited use of her arms. Tonia drowned when the wheelchair she was sitting in fell into the Mississinewa River by the Charles Mill Dam. Her death was ruled a probable suicide.
