Fowler Crittenden Jones, 84 years old, 1620 Bloomfield Rd., died early this morning in a hospital here. Mr Jones had been a newspaper editor, owner of a printing and furniture business and had dealt in real estate here until his retirement in 1959.
He came to Cape Girardeau in 1908 form Bloomfield and worked for the Daily Democrat and later edited weekly newspapers at Jackson, Cape girardeau and Crossett, Ark. He graduated in 1912 from Inland Technical College in Chicago.
Mr. Jones returned to Cape Girardeau after attending college and entered the Army in September 1917 during World War I. He served with the 314th Engeneer Group at Camp Funston, Kan.
In 1915, he established a job printing business on Broadway known as Jones Printing Co., which was eventually bought by Ralph Fuerth in 1917.
Mr Jones started a new and used furniture business known as Jones Furniture Co., with W. H Campbell in 1921, and it was located at Independence and Spanish streets 36 years.
He also dealt extensively in commercial and residental property sales until his retirement. His sons were associated with him in these ventures.
Mr. Jones was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, St. Mark's Masonic Lodge for 35 years and the American Legion.
He was born in Bloomfield Nov. 16, 1887, and married the former Miss Gladys J McKinney June 10, 1925 at Jackson. She proceeded him in death Jan. 3, 1960.
Surviving are two sons, Fowler C. Jones Jr., Mission, Kans., and John Jones, Cape Girardeau: three sisters, Mrs. Irma Anderson, Cape Girardeau, and Mrs. Edna Tiller and Mrs. Pearl Elmore, both of Bloomfield, and two grandsons, Fowler C III and Michael D. Jones, both of Mission.
The body is a ford and Sons Funeral Home where friends may call after 10 Friday morning. Masonic services will be held at 7:30 Friday night at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 Saturday afternoon at the funeral home with Dr. J Ray Trotter, pastor of Centenary United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park.
