Kathleen Belle Hawkins passed away peacefully March 16, 2016 at Horizon’s Care Center surrounded by her loving family. She was 95 years old.

Kathleen Belle Hawkins was born on March 2, 1921, to Wilbur Spaulding Rowell and Thelma B. Stillwagen Rowell, in Green River, Utah. She spent her childhood between Green River and Moab, eventually graduating from Moab Grand County High School in 1939. Kathleen was a resident of Redlands Mesa since 1949.

On November 4, 1942, Kathleen married John Wilburn Hawkins in Berkley, California. From this union three children were born.

She was a newspaper editor and a bookkeeper. Kathleen had many hobbies and interests. She loved writing, rescuing stray cats, and she was also a very good artist; however, her passion was to spend quality time with her kids and grandkids.

She belonged to several clubs, including the Redlands Mesa Community Club, Redlands Mesa Grange, the Upper Surface Creek Domestic Water Users association, and the Sage Dome Watercolorists.

Kathleen is preceded in death by her parents, her great-granddaughter Danielle Ziegler, a brother, Ben, and four sisters: Delores, Adelaide, June, and Anna Laurie.

She is survived by her beloved husband, John Hawkins; son, Dan (Helen) Hawkins, of Redlands Mesa; daughters: Sharon MacKendrick, of Milan, NM, and Laura J. Donovan, of Delta, CO; her brother, Dan Rowell (Virginia), of Boise, ID; six grandchildren; two adopted grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 25, 2016 at Eckert Presbyterian Church with Rev. David Hawkins officiating, followed by Internment at Cedaredge Cemetery in Cedaredge, Colorado, then a pot luck reception at the Redlands Mesa Grange Hall at 1:30 p.m.
