He was born April 5, 1924 in Lisbon, Ohio, the son of the late Russell J. and Ada (Burgham) Bell.
Mr. Bell had been a machinist in the pump business. He served as a corporal with the U.S. Army during WWII, where he landed on Normandy Beach and received numerous medals including a Purple Heart.
He was a member of the Salem First United Methodist Church.
His wife, Margie L. (Lutz) Bell, whom he married June 15, 1946 survives him; along with two daughters, Sandra McGee of Boardman and Brenda (Fred) Girscht of Columbus; two sons, Terry (Linda) Bell and William (Betsy) Bell Jr. both of Salem; three sisters, Garnet (William) Fuson of Lisbon, Vi (George) Ogle of Salem and Nita (Clyde) Floor of Salem; three brothers, Theodore (Faye) Bell, James (Sandra) Bell and Raymond (Sandra) Bell all of Lisbon; a brother-in-law, Glenn Greathouse; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A sister, Ehila Greathouse, preceded him in death.
Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home with full military honor services to follow provided by the Salem V.F.W. Post 892 and Salem AMVETS Post 45 Burial Group.
