"The son of Jacob and Elizabeth (Schneider) Rahn; moved from Kutztown, Berks Co. to Orwigsburg, Schuylkill County; Schuylkill County Sheriff, 1820-1831; Prothonotary, 1839; first president of the Farmers Bank of Schuylkill County, 1845; state senator, 1845-1846; member state House of Representatives, 1824-1827, 1829; Chief Burgess, Ashland Borough, 1859; associate judge of Schuylkill County. Rahn Township named in his honor, 1860; 1829 patented 300 acres of coal land in Schuylkill County..."

The Miners' Journal (Pottsville, PA), May 10, 1862, Page 2:

"Death of a Prominent Public Man. - Hon. George Rahn, who during the past 40 years, has filled positions of public trust and responsibility, in this County, died at his residence in the Borough, on Tuesday morning last. His remains were interred in the Lutheran Cemetery, Orwigsburg, on Thursday, and were attended to their last resting place by Pulaski Lodge, No. 216, A.Y.M., by the members of the bar, and by a large number of citizens.

Mr. Rahn was born in Amity Township, Berks County, on the 4th of June 1793. He came to Orwigsburg, Schuylkill (then Berks) in 1810, at the age of 17, in which town he taught school for some years. Subsequently he engaged in mercantile business at Friedensburg. He was elected Sheriff of the County in 1820. After the expiration of his term of office, he represented this County, in connection with Berks, in the House of Representatives of this state, during several sessions. In 1828 he was appointed Deputy Surveyor by Governor Schultz. In 1831 he was re elected High Sheriff. In 1834 he was appointed Prothonotary by Gov. D. R. Porter, and in the Fall of that year he was elected to said office, under the amended Constitution, for three years. In 1841 he was appointed as Associate Judge by Gov. Porter. In 1845 he was elected to the State Senate to fill the unexpired term of F. W. Hughes, Esq. In 1859 he was elected as Associate Judge for five years, and in 1861 was re-elected to the same office. The age of Judge Rahn at the time of his death was 68 years, 10 months and 28 days."
