Fred L. Moon, a native and lifelong Etowah County resident and son of the late Oliver B. and Lela Cohen Moon, died Sept. 23, 1989. Funeral service at Collier-Butler Funeral Chapel Tuesday and interment in Forrest Cemetery. He was a member of Bellevue United Methodist Church, an honorary member of Gadsden Lions Club, VFW and retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company with 44 years service as an electrician. He served as a radio operator with 807th Tank Destroyer Battalion in World War II. Mr. Moon helped organize the first little league teams in Gadsden and was a very successful little league coach for 22 years with Gadsden Lions Club baseball team. He was manager of Gadsden National Little League team that placed third in 1958 Little League World Series and fifth in 1959 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. In 1968, Mr. Moon and the 1958 Little League team was presented a plaque honoring them in the first Gadsden City of Champions ceremony. He was preceded in death by his brothers, O. Clyde and Troy L. Moon.
