Al Albinson, age 85, died Saturday January 12, 2013 in his home in Hot Springs.

Al was born in Nebraska to Alvin and Alma Albinson on August 30, 1928.

Mr. Albinson is survived by his wife, Jo Ellen Moss Robberson Albinson, his son and daughter-in-law, and 2 step-children.

He also leaves behind two granddaughters, seven step-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Alvin and Alma, his sisters, Bernice, Bonnie and Marion, and his first wife, Virginia Fae Mathews Albinson.

Al grew up in Bartow, Florida and attended the University of Florida before moving to Hot Springs with his family.

After helping his father build The Mountainaire Resort, Al enlisted in the Navy and served in World War II. He then served in the Air Force during the Korean War. Upon returning to Hot Springs he joined the Air National Guard where he served more than twenty years before retiring as Lt. Colonel and Commanding Officer (1973-1981) of the 223d Combat Communications Squadron. During this time he also served as nursing home administrator when the Mountainaire was converted to a nursing home.

Al served as an alderman for the city of Hot Springs during the late 60s. He was a dedicated Boy Scout leader for his son's troop for several years. After selling the Mountainaire,

Al owned and operated Bix Furniture Stripping where he was the self-proclaimed "best stripper in Hot Springs". He was a member of Pullman Heights Methodist Church. He served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Mid-Week Men's Bowling League at Central Bowling Lanes in Hot Springs for over 20 years and is listed in the National Bowling Hall of Fame.

Al's favorite pastimes were fishing, needlepointing and working jigsaw puzzles.

Pallbearers will be: Don Burnham, John LaFave, Elmer Padgett, Mark Worsham, Casterdale Harden, Don Smith, Jason Campbell, and Steve Grim.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Larry Gowen, Bob Woody, Don Cheek, Jack Smith, Doyle Smith, Josh Avery, Justin Avery, Matt Nanak, Mike Robertson, Dr. John Bond, Ted from United Medical, members of the Pullman Heights Methodist Church, all members and former members of the Arkansas Air National Guard 223rd Combat Communication Squadron.

Memorials in lieu of flowers can be made to Pullman Heights Methodist Church in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Visitation will be held at Gross Funeral Home today from 6 to 8 pm.
Funeral services will be held 10 am Tuesday at Gross Funeral Home with interment to follow with Military Honors in Oak Grove Cemetery.
