HAMPTON — Thedis Case Leatherwood, 82, of Hampton, died at home on Monday, Jan. 15, 2001. Born in Waynesville, N.C., to the late Adophus and Minnie Case, she had been a resident of Hampton for the past 60 years. Mrs. Leatherwood was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and especially enjoyed the fellowship and music of her church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam; her sister, Mae; and her brother, "Red."

Mrs. Leatherwood is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Judy Leatherwood; three grandchildren, Rebecca Blank, Christopher Leatherwood and his wife, Elizabeth, and Sheryl Terry and her husband, Mark; six great-grandsons, Matthew Terry, Zachary Leatherwood, Andrew Blank, Austin Leatherwood, Jacob Terry and Cameron Blank; nieces, Patricia Allen of Waynesville, N.C., Doris Williams and her husband, Ron, of Centreville, Md., and Dorothy White of Kernersville, N.C.; and a nephew, Dominic Depaulo of Chicago, Ill. Special thanks and appreciation to Yvonne Garris for being a good and loving friend to her.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, at Bethel Baptist Church by the Rev. Lloyd V. Donica with interment to follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Mom, you eagerly anticipated the day when the pain would be gone and you would again be in the presence of those loved ones who had gone before. We will miss you but we also welcome your new life.
