Ashberry was the son of William Henry Ambrose (son of Bailey Ambrose) and his wife Mary Ann Furlough. Ashberry married three times: first in 1881 to Narcissus Ambrose, their daughters were Sarah and Nancy. He was married December 1900 to Rebecca Jane Woodley, daughter of William Daniel and Ann Ambrose Woodley, and their children were Theodore, William Ira, and Melinda Jane who married Roy U Davenport. In 1912 he married Hester Frances Ambrose, no issue. In 1900 Census he is a widower, household is shared by Charles and Zilphy A. Phelps.
