Susan Montgomery Morrison went to be at peace with her Lord and Savior on March 17, 2016.
She was born in Paola, Kansas on January 14, 1934 to Tressie May and Fred Montgomery.
Susan grew up in Lawrence, Kansas, and while attending high school she met and later married the love of her life, Richard Allen Morrison, on June 29, 1958. She attended the University of Kansas where she was an Alpha Chi Omega where she graduated with honors and obtained a Master’s Degree from the school of Education in Administration. In addition to being a loving wife and mother, a cub scout den mother, a teacher, and artist, Susan was active in the greater Kansas City community serving on numerous non-profit boards and committees. She was instrumental in securing funding for a variety of philanthropic causes, including the University of Kansas Medical Center Burn Unit. She took part in the initial formation of the Kansas City Ballet and served as a board member. In addition, Susan was an active member and Past President of the local GM Chapter of P.E.O. Her love for children and education inspired her service on the Board of Directors of the Ozanam Home for Boys.
Susan was a faithful member of the Village Presbyterian Church for many years and was involved in various church programs such as the Church’s Printmakers Guild and Art Ministry programs. Susan is survived by her husband of 57 years, Dr. Richard Morrison, son David Morrison of Prairie Village, Kansas, daughter Mary Ann Morrison Stiles and her children Austin, Maren and Sawyer Stiles of Auburn, Alabama, son Steven Morrison and his wife Stephanie and their daughter Caroline Morrison of Overland Park, KS.
The family requests donations be made in her memory to the Village Presbyterian Church and/or the Ozanam Home for Boys. The family will hold a visitation at the Johnson County Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 from 6:00-8:00pm (11200 Metcalf Ave. Overland Park, KS 66210). A celebration of Susan Montgomery Morrison’s life will be held at the Village Presbyterian Church at 11:00am on Thursday, March 24, 2016 (6641 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS 66208). Immediately following the celebration will be a graveside service for family and friends at Johnson County Memorial Gardens (11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, KS 66210).
