Lester Earl Clark, Sr., 83, passed away March 20 at Evans Memorial Hospital. The Evans County native served in the Navy and while in California met his wife, Joyce. They lived in California and moved to Claxton in 1971, where he owned and operated a Texaco service station until he sold out and opened a thrift store and was an auctioneer. He was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church and an avid fisherman. Earl was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, and a great-granddaughter, Rachel DeLoach.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Joyce Clark of Claxton; four sons, Lester Earl (Louise) Clark, Jr., Kenny (Tracey) Clark, Alan Clark and Jim (Brenda) Clark, all of Claxton; one brother, Herschel (Pansy) Clark of Hiawassee, Ga.; one sister, Juanita Morris of Claxton; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 23, from 12-2 p.m., at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 23, at 2 p.m., at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at 3 p.m., at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Glennville, Ga. Pallbearers will be Mike Clark, Dennis Durrence, Gregg Clark, Jason Clark, Steve Clark and Mitchell DeLoach.
Remembrances may be sent to St. Christopher Catholic Church, 402 S. River St., Claxton, Ga. 30417. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
