Mrs. Pearline James 83, of Opelika, passed away peacefully March 18, 2016 at the Arbor Springs Rehab Center. She was predeceased by her parents, Willis and Pinkie Elizabeth Barnes and siblings; Myrtle (WC) Sanders, Henry Barnes, Lula Mae (Eugene) Orrick, and Lewis Ray Barnes. Mrs. James is survived by her husband of 20 years, William H. (Toby) James, three sons; Clarence Murphy, Larry (Jan) Murphy, Cleve (Teresa) Murphy, and one daughter, Glenda (Tony) Thrash; grandchildren Autumn Murphy (Mark) Mann, David (Kelly) Murphy and Derek Murphy; great grandchildren Justin Mann, Holly Mann, and Kimberly Murphy. She is also survived by brother-in-law Frank (Barbara) James, and sister-in-law Evelyn Kiker along with a host of nieces and nephews and many friends. Mrs. James was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and was loved by everyone that knew her. She was of the Pentecostal Faith and was in church as long as she was able. She and her first husband, Earl Murphy, were responsible for the founding of the First Freewell Baptist Church located on Highway 51 in Opelika. She loved sewing and did alterations for many in the Opelika area. She had an avid love for yard work and it was evident, because her yards were always beautifully manicured. Visitation will be Sunday, March 20, 2016, at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home from 1:00-3:00 PM with funeral following at 3:00 PM in the Chapel. Burial will follow in Garden Hills Cemetery. Rev. Wayne Prickett, and Rev. Mike Newman will be officiating. Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home is directing.
