Rev. Marvin S. Long, age 92 years, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 18, 2016 at 2:25 pm in his home in Clinton, Missouri where he had lived for the last 30 years. Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Vansant-Mills Funeral Chapel, Clinton, Missouri. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 P.M. prior to funeral service. Interment will follow at Deepwater Cemetery, Deepwater, Missouri. Family suggests memorial contributions to G.V.M.H. Home Health or Twin Lakes Hospice and may be left in care of funeral home. Fond memories and condolences can be left online at www.vansant-millsfuneralhome.com. He was born in Warsaw, Missouri on August 24, 1923 to Alvin S. Long and Emma M. Reust. Marvin was drafted and served in WWII in the United States Army from February 1943 to April 1946 as a member of the 555th ABN, Battery C and in later years served as Chaplain of the battery. Marvin was a member of the V.F.W Post #1894 of Clinton. He married Betty J. Collins from Deepwater, Missouri on May 22, 1949 and to that union were born 7 children. Marvin and Betty devoted their lives to pioneering and pastoring churches in Missouri. When not pastoring, they served in many capacities of ministry in churches in Missouri and Kansas and to countless people that crossed their path through the years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, his parents, 4 brothers, 3 sisters, 1 son, 2 grandsons, 1 granddaughter, and 1 great-granddaughter. He is survived by 2 daughters, Kathryn Collins of Clinton, MO, Marie Rash and husband Mike of Lyndon, KS; 4 sons, Marvin Long and wife Linda of Republic, MO, Lester Long and wife Karen of Clinton, MO, Alvin Long and wife Verecia of Clinton, MO, and David Long and wife Cindy of Pikeville, NC; 19 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and a soon to be great great-grandchild, a host of nieces and nephews, and many friends that considered him family.
