Ticket Office Veteran Dies
Short Line Employee for 25 Years Succumbs at His Home Near Sandy, Utah.
Laban John Kyes, head of the city ticket office of the Oregon Short Line in Salt Lake City, Utah for the last twenty-five years died at his home near Sandy, Utah at 2:45 o'clock yesterday afternoon. He had been ill for more than a year with a general breakdown. Funeral services will be held in the Masonic Temple Sunday at an hour to be announced later.
Mr. Kyes was born in Washington, Illinois, August 18, 1857 but came to Salt Lake when a young man and began working for the Oregon Short Line as a ticket clerk with Forey Eccles more than thirty years ago. He was in charge of the consolidated ticket office during federal control and held his position as city ticket agent for the Oregon Short Line up to the time of his death. He was one of the best known ticket agents in the country and decidedly popular with railroad men generally.
In 1898, Mr. Kyes became a member of Argenta Lodge No. 3, Free and Accepted Masons members of which Lodge will conduct his funeral services. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery.
Mrs. Keyes died in Salt Lake City, Utah, April 20, 1915 and they had no children. Surviving him are three brothers and one sister. These are Mrs. W. A. Wildhack of Pekin, Illinois; F. D. Kyes of Canton, Illinois; C. C. Kyes of San Jose, California, and Kent O Keyes of Salt Lake, City, Utah.
