ALBURG/SPRINGFIELD, Mass.
Elaine H. (Terry) Bessette, 81, of Alburg died peacefully, Monday, April 8, 2002, with her loving family by her side when Jesus called her to her new home.

She was born in Northfield, the daughter of the late Bert and Della (Garney) Terry.

She was married to Preston J. Debuque on June 16, 1937, who predeceased her in 1945 during active duty in World War II. They had two children, a daughter Marlene (who now lives with her husband, Ronald Shappy Sr., in Grand Isle), and a son Preston P. Dubuque (who now lives with his wife, Roberta, in Westfield, Mass.).

She then married Joseph Bessette in 1947, and they resided in Springfield, Mass. for over 30 years. He predeceased her in 1982.

Elaine formally worked for the American Woolen Mills in Winooski and retired from Springfield Wire Company in 1972. She lived with her granddaughter Joan and her husband, Steven Peters Sr., in Alburg for over 10 years. Elaine was the greatest, she loved her family very much and adored her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She also had a special companion and best friend, the family dog, Trixie. Good bye Mom, Gramma and best friend, we will carry you in our hearts forever. She is also survived by three other grandchildren; Ronald Jr. and Sandra Shappy of Grand Isle, Leslie Kratovil of Westfield, Mass., Lucindy and Shawn Amell of Westfield; six great-grandchildren; James Paquette Jr. and his wife, Amee, Holly and her husband, Shawn Degree, Jamie Shappy, Austin Shappy, Jacki Amell and one special great-grandchild to be born this summer; three greatgreat-grandchildren; Brianna Paquette, Autumn Rose Degree, Taylor Paquette; several step-grandchildren, one very special niece, Carolyn Mason of Gibson, Fla.; several other nieces and nephews; and special cousins Kathy and John Ganem.

She was also predeceased by her brother, Phillip R. Terry in 1953, and her stepson, Robert Martin, in 1998.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday April 11, 2002, at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Isle La Motte.

Interment will be in Grand Isle Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Wednesday, April 10, 2002, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. in the LaVigne Funeral Home, 132 Main St. Winooski, Vt.

BESSETTE, Elaine H. (Terry) A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Thursday, April 11, 2002, at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Isle La Motte by the Rev. Maurice Boucher, S.S.E. Con-celebrating was the Rev. Richard Emard. Assisting was Deacon Alan Vincelette and Duane Langlois. The readings were proclaimed by Sandy Shappy.

Music was provided by Maurice Gauthier and Carol Pellerin. The gifts were presented by Lucindy Amell, Jamie Shappy and Austin Shappy.

Words of remembrance were shared by her grandchildren, Joan Peters and Ron Shappy Jr.

Interment followed in Grand Isle Cemetery with Father Boucher offering committal prayers.

Bearers were Ron Shappy Sr. Ron Shappy Jr., Steve Peters, James Paquette Jr., Shawn Degree and Roy Bixby. Arrangements made by the LaVigne Funeral Home in Winooski.
