A loving husband, father, and grandfather went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, December 18, 2013, after his battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was a graduate of Belaire High School, class of 1980. Mark was employed by ExxonMobil where he was part of the fire team. He was an avid fisher and hunter who loved to cook.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Jo Charlet Merritt; parents, Gerald and Janet Doyal Merritt; two daughters, Danielle Merritt Gaudet and husband, Jake, and Kaylan Renee Merritt; two sons, Nathaniel Joseph Merritt and wife Kristin Allen Merritt and Hunter Matthew Merritt; stepchildren, Jordan Charlet, Shelby Stevens, and Rhett Stevens; brothers, Michael John Merritt, Sr. and Victor Matthew Merritt and wife Judith Kelly Merritt; 4 grandchildren, Gabrielle, Bailey, Garrett, and Kendall; step grandchildren, Makenzie, Hunter, and Shilah.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Audie Morvant; maternal grandfather, F.C. Doyal; paternal grandmother, Mildred R. Slightom and paternal grandfather, Ernest L. Merritt.

Visitation will be held Friday December 20, 2013 at Greenoaks Funeral Home from 5PM-9PM. Visitation will resume on Saturday December 21, 2013 from 8AM until Funeral Service beginning at 10AM. Interment will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Victor Merritt, Kirby Celestin, Craig Phillips, Albert Merey, Sr., Vince Rispone, and Eric Hebert.

Honorary Pallbearers are Alton Charlet and Michael Merritt, Sr.
