Beverly Horton, 82, of Ft. Lauderdale, passed peacefully on Wednesday, October 20, 1999 after a lengthy battle with cancer and related illnesses.

Mrs. Horton was born in Ft. Lauderdale on April 23, 1917, a daughter of William and Stella Burney Wingate. As was customary at that time, she was delivered at the Wingate's home on the north bank of the Tarpon River, just west of the current U.S. #1.

Mrs. Horton was the youngest of five (5) siblings: Sisters, Jewell, Irma, and Iris; and brother, H.B. Wingate all of whom preceded her in death.

Mrs. Horton graduated from Ft. Lauderdale High School in 1935 and then married Henry M. Horton on Christmas Eve of 1935. This union lasted until Mr. Horton's death on April 6, 1997. Mr. Horton was sales manager at Trammel Motors in Ft. Lauderdale, the local Packard and the Mercedes-Benz agency from prior to WWII to 1965. In 1966 Mr. Horton formed Horton Motors at 113 N.E. 3rd Ave., Ft. Lauderdale which he operated until his retirement in 1985. Mrs. Horton functioned as company secretary. Mrs. Horton's primary mission in life was caring for her physically handicapped daughter, Ann Horton at their home in Ft. Lauderdale. Mrs. Horton was a long time member of First United Methodist Church of Ft. Lauderdale.

She is survived by her daughter, Beverly Ann Horton; and son, Bill Horton of Ft. Lauderdale and numerous relatives on both Wingate and Horton Family branches. Also numerous caring friends from church and childhood.

A graveside service win be held on Monday, October 25 at 11:00 A.M. at Evergreen Cemetery, Fort Lauderdale.

Arrangements have been entrusted to FAIRCHILD FUNERAL HOME. 763-4488.

As expressions of sympathy the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society, 3407 N.W. 9th Ave., Ft. Lauderdale, FL 333 09 in lieu of flowers.
