Wayne was the sixth of seven children born to Winfred and Mary Ann Trotter Parker. Born in Dickens, Lincoln County, Nebraska, he grew up on his paternal grandparents' homestead in Frontier County, near the present town of Maywood. He attended elementary school in Quick and graduated from the Curtis High School in 1940.
Wayne enlisted in the Army Air Force on 16 Feb 1943 at Denver, Colorado. He served with the 138th Army Air Force Base Unit as an airplane mechanic and was stationed at bases in Louisiana and Florida. He received his honorable discharge at the Separation Center at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas on 3 April 1946.
On 15 April 1947, in Oberlin, Kansas, he married Irene L. Wills of Maywood. They had two children, Randolph Eugene (1952) and Janet Elaine (1954).
Wayne attended school in Lincoln and became a certified airplane mechanic. In 1955, he worked at an airplane factory in Cheyenne, Wyoming for a year and a half until it closed. He brought his family back to Nebraska and settled in Curtis where he worked at the Ford Dealership as an auto mechanic. After the dealership closed, he worked for a sand and gravel company. In 1985, he went to work for Frontier County maintaining the county roads and equipment. He retired in 1998 at the age of 75.
Irene passed away 16 Jul 1969. Wayne married Leona Childers Lang in October 1973.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers and sisters, his wife, Irene, his son, Randy, and his wife Leona.
He is survived by his daughter, Janet of Nashville TN, stepdaughter, Debra Covey (Jon) of Maywood, granddaughters Amanda Covey of Lincoln, Randi Covey (Wes Kincaid), great-granddaughter, Mikaylee Grace of North Platte, nieces Monte Wills Kotrous, Sandy Wills, nephews Rusty and Gary Wills and their families, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Graveside services will be held Friday, April 8, 2016 at 3:00 pm at the Curtis cemetery.
