He was born June 8, 1929 in Tazewell County, Virginia to the late Rolland and Rosa (Godbey) Baldwin.
Joe served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War and was awarded a Purple Heart for his service. He worked at Ranco Manufacturing in Delaware retiring after 39 years. Joe also pastored several area churches as church was a big part of his life. He was a member of the Edison Freewill Baptist Church and also attended the Eastside Mission Church. He was an avid golfer and when younger, he enjoyed coaching baseball.
He had a great sense of humor and loved a good joke. A very Godly man, he was a positive influence to all. He was and always will be loved by many. His family was his pride and joy; with whom he shared his words of wisdom and stories.
Left to cherish his memory are his children Randy (Lucy) Baldwin, Allen (Bonita) Baldwin and Brenda (Mark) Marston all of Delaware; nine grandchildren Shane Baldwin, Jason (Anne) Baldwin, Tasha (Gary) Keener, Genna (Joel Campbell) Murphy, Leila (Mat) Brammer, Michael (Jhama) Marston, Kelli (Eric) Kincaid, Cory Baldwin and Christa (Chris Ovalle) Baldwin; five great-grandchildren Noah and Ariah Keener, Kairi and Joslyn Marston and Jorja Murphy; brothers Don (Pat) Baldwin of Ashley and Jack Baldwin of Hilliard; sisters Ellen Hildreth of Centerburg and Clara (Homer) Bronson of Marion; brother-in-law Cecil Compton; sister-in-laws Sharon Baldwin and Gusta Bevins; numerous nieces and nephews; and his feline companion Fred.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years Mae, a daughter Sandra K. Murphy and 3 brothers and 5 sisters.
The family will receive friends on Friday March 18, 2016 from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. at the Snyder Rodman Funeral Center, 1510 W. William Street at Valleyside Drive, Delaware and where funeral services will be held on Saturday March 19, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Donnie Akers, Rev. Jerry Harrison and Rev. Ed Colgrove officiating. Burial will follow in Green Mound Cemetery in Kilbourne with military honors.
