Kathleen Jeanne Ontiveros died March 15, 2016, at her home in Santa Maria. Named for her aunt Kathleen, Mrs. Ontiveros was known to all as Jeanne. She was born to Ora and Ralph Wilson at the Grisby Hospital in Santa Maria, and grew up on the Palmer-Stendal oil lease, near Sisquoc. Jeanne attended the two-room Blochman School. While there she was the mayor of the student built and run Blochman City. Jeanne graduated from Santa Maria High School in 1944 and from the Highland School of Nursing in Oakland in 1947. Jeanne began her fifty-one year nursing career at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Hospital (the old Sister' Hospital) in 1948. On August 27, 1949 she married Alexander Ontiveros and they spent the next forty-nine years building lives together.

Of course these are just the bare facts of Jeanne's life. It Is difficult to put into words the kind of determination and fierceness in which she faced life. She worked fifty-one years as a nurse, over thirty-five years in labor and delivery, helping to bring two generations and thousands of babies into the world. Her working career alone would stand as a testament to a life well lived, but that was only one facet of her talents.

Jeanne was an avid reader, a great cook, and she loved to play cards. In her later years she was not adverse to a trip to a casino to play the slots. Although never a great lover of sports, she dutifully attend her children and grandchildren's games and she liked to watch to the Dodgers.

Jeanne spent the vast majority of her life in the Santa Maria and Sisquoc valleys. She was a proud family and its history. For Jeanne family was everything. She was the matriarch for, not only her own children, but also her network of cousins, nieces and nephews, and friends she held as her own. The pride and love she had in all her family was her most enduring legacy.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband Alexander Ontiveros, her parents Ralph and Ora Wilson, and her brother Bob Wilson. She was also preceded by her son-in-law John Fessler, grandson Zachary Ontiveros, brothers and sisters-in-law Clay and Juanita Brown and Earl and Erma Jane Burger.

She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law Mark and Louise Ontiveros, Kevin and Joann Ontiveros, Paul and Margaret Ontiveros, John and Donna Ontiveros, Luke and Carol Ontiveros, David and Karen Ontiveros and daughter Cythnia Fessler. Grandchildren Yvette (Clay) James, Benjamin, Adam (Crystal), Sarah, Elizabeth (Gabe), Sean (Jena), Kevin, Kate, Issac, Noah, Caleb (Jen), Molly, Hannah, Melissa, Kayla, Alexander, Joel, Seth, Emily, Steven and Matthew, and Kelly.

And Carolyn Juretic, her many and beloved nieces and nephews and her loving sister and brother-in-law Ramona and Orvil Garcia, and the thousands she helped bring into the world.

Visitation will be held at Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary Chapel from 3:00 to 8:00 pm on Sunday, March 20th with a rosary at 6:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 21st at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Louis De Montfort Church, 1190 E.
