DAVENPORT, Iowa -- Evelyn R. Ehmke, of Davenport, died Saturday, August 26, 2006, at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus, in Davenport. There will be no visitation or funeral service, as was her request. The body will be cremated with a private burial being held at a later date at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Cunnick-Collins Mortuary and Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements.
Evelyn Ruth Thode was born on July 15, 1920, in Davenport, the daughter of Carl and Ella (Schultz) Thode.
She married Jacob Herman Ehmke in February 1941 in Davenport. He preceded her in death in September 1973.
She had been employed at Reife's Restaurant in Davenport and also the former Peterson Harned Von Maur, retiring in 1980. Following her retirement from Petersons, she worked for CASI as the meal site manager at Luther Towers for an additional seven years.
Survivors include her daughter, Ruth A. Wolfe, of Davenport; a "special grandson," Gary Thomas, of South Yorkshire, England; and a sister, Jeanette Garcia, of California.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother, Roland. Memorials may be made to her daughter, Ruth Wolfe, to be utilized specifically for the Good Samaritan Center.
