Paul O. Glatfelter, 90, died Saturday, November 13, 2004 at the Barbara J. Egan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Shrewsbury. He was the husband of Betty L. (Griffith) Glatfelter with whom he observed a 63rd wedding anniversary this past March 22nd.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Salem Lutheran Church, 99 York Road, Jacobus. Burial will be in Salem Union Cemetery. Viewings will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Geiple Funeral Home, Inc., 53 Main Street, Glen Rock, with Masonic Rites by Shrewsbury Lodge #423 F & AM at 7 p.m., and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Officiating at the service will be his pastor, the Rev. D. Ray Hatcher.
Mr Glatfelter was born December 3, 1913, in York Township, a son of the late Oscar J. and Annie M. (Hoffman) Glatfelter.
He retired in 1978 following 31 years of employment with the former G. F. Plitt & Sons Bottling Company in York where he was the Office Manager, Assistant Secretary and Treasurer.
He was a lifelong member of Salem Lutheran Church and was former secretary of the church council. He also served as Treasurer for mny years of the Glen Rock Water Authority and served as Treasurer and on the Board of Directors of Glatfelter Association. He was Past President of the former Glen Rock Lion's Club and had served as Secretary of the club for 13 years. He also served as Membersip and Dues Secretary of the Glen Rock Ambulance Club following the formation of the community volunteer organization. He was presented with a life membership in the Ambulance Club for his many years of service.
Active in Masonic organizations, he was a member and Past Master of the Shrewsbury Lodge #423 Free and Accepted Masons; was a member, Past President and served on the Board of Directors of the Red Lion Scottish Rite Club; member of the York County Shrine Club; and served on Golf Committee, and held memberships in the Zembo Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. Harrisburg; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Harrisburg Consistory; Tall Cedars of Lebanon York Forrest #30; York Gethsemane Commandery #21 Knights of Templar; and York Royal Arch Chapter #199.
Mr. Glatfelter was a Charter Member and Life Member of the Bon Air Country Club where he had a hole in one. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and was a member of the Austin L. Grove American Legion Post #403.
In addition to his wife, he is also survived by two daughters, Donna L. Keller of Glen Rock, Judy K. Martin of Dallastown; two grandchildren, Gail Markle and Andrew Martin; and two sisters, Gladys Hess and Verna Gable both of York.
