Walter Silas Lafferty, 71, of Cedar Creek, WV passed away on Monday, March 14, 2016 at his home with his wife by his side. He had previously worked as a coal miner for 21 years in WV as well as King Trucking repair in VA.
He was born November 6, 1944 in Matheny, WV a son of the late Bennie Talley Lafferty (1911-1986) and Ida Belcher-Lafferty (1912-2002). In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his son, Walter Christopher Lafferty (Deceased), an infant sister, Vena Leal Lafferty (1943-1943); and a brother, William “Bill” Lafferty (Deceased).
He is survived by his wife Glenna Cline-Lafferty of the home; a daughter, Rebecca Lafferty-Peek & husband Willie Peek of Salisbury, NC; two stepdaughters Teres,a Fromsness of Mt. Juliet, TN; Glenna Blankenship of Taylorsville, NC; two stepsons, Jon Conn & wife Michelle Conn, Jessie Dunford & wife Alice Dunford of Taylorsville, NC; a sister, Margaret Helen Lafferty-Osborne (1947-2020) and husband Landy Lay Osborne (1947-2016) of Matheny, Dixie Lafferty-Cook & husband David Cook of Jesse; a brother, Benny Lafferty & wife Virginia Lafferty of Matheny; as well as a “special” nephew Jackie “Darnell” Belcher & wife Angie Belcher of Nobesville, VA; fifteen grandchildren, Summer Lafferty, Stephanie Lafferty, Brandon Greenwood, Courtney Greenwood, Mason Greenwood, Waylan Peek, Sierra Fromsness, Savanna Fromsness, Madisyn Conn, Braxtyn Conn, Jamie Dunford, Jessica Dunford, Jason Dunford, Jaylynn Dunford, and Corey Blankenship; and a host of other loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, March 17, 2016 in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV with Rev. Jerry McCoy and Pastor Seth Cline officiating. He will be laid to rest in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, WV.
