Mr. Joseph Darling, Sr., age 90 passed away March 11, 2016 at Shands Hospital. Born in Alachua, FL, Mr. Darling lived fifty-nine years in Newberry, FL, and was a member of Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Avis Wilson Darling, children; Evan, Charles, Joseph, Jr., Alphonso, and Jacquelyn Darling.
Mr. Darling is survived by his children; Carlton Darling (Dorothy), Reginald Darling (Lisa), Gloria Mells (Darrison), Margaret Darling, Delores Darling, all of Newberry, FL, Carolyn Mells (George), Archer, FL; sisters, Alberta Morrow, Miami, FL, Bessie Clark, Alice Williams (John), both of Alachua, FL, twenty grandchildren, numerous great grand's, and numerous great-great grand's.
Funeral Services for Mr. Darling will be held, 3:00pm, Saturday, March 19, 2016 at the Female Protective Temple, Rev. Nathaniel Jones, Officiating; burial will follow in Pleasant Plain Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Chestnut Funeral Home, Inc., 18 N.W. 8th Avenue, Gainesville, FL.
Mr. Darling will repose in the Chestnut Memorial Chapel on Friday, March 18, 2016 from 2:00pm until 4:30pm, and on Saturday at the Temple from 2:00pm until the hour of Service. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Friday, from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at New St. Paul Baptist Church, Newberry, FL. Family and friends are asked to meet on Saturday at the home of Mr. Darling, 550 N.W. 252 St. Newberry, FL at 2:00pm to form the cortege.
