She was born June 21, 1930, in Traverse City, the daughter of the Rev. Wayne and Clara (Lehnus) Palmer.
Carolyn graduated from Buchanan High School, class of 1949, and attended Bethel College from 1949 to 1953.
She was married April 24, 1954, to Dale E. Wiggins at the Portage Prairie Evangelical Church by her father, who pastored the church, the Rev. Wayne Palmer. Carolyn and Dale moved to their farm on Robbins Lake Road in 1963 to farm, and Carolyn became a licensed care giver for adults in 1965, providing a home for adults until her husband’s death on April 1, 2005. Carolyn had no children and was an only child.
Surviving are her caregivers, Mary and Fred Quirin of Mishawaka, who looked after her needs for the past seven years. Also surviving are members of her husband's family, the Wiggins, who are brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews. Family who have passed are her parents and her beloved husband.
Family and friends gathered from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 20, at the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, 26863 W. Main St., (U.S.12), Edwardsburg. At 4 p.m. Sunday, March 20, there was a funeral service with the Rev. Ken Bontreger, pastor of Chapel Hill Missionary Church, Union, officiating. Carolyn was a member of the church. Burial followed on Monday, March 21, at 2:30 p.m. at the grave in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka, IN.
