A resident of Bayou Blue community, Kenneth "Matt" Matherne served several terms as a Lafourche Parish council member. He was the owner of MATCO Construction Company of Thibodaux and the Visage Rouge Trailer Park in Bourg. He was an outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish - and fly his Cessna. He also ran a charter fishing boat for several years and was known as Captain Matt. Matt also served in the National Guard.
He is survived by his companion Anita "Peggy" Aguilar; his children, Pamela Ann Guidry and husband Darrin, Shane Paul Matherne and wife Elene, Kenneth "Kenny" Matherne, Jr., Keith Aaron Matherne, Nicole Streva and husband Jeffrey, and Connie Marcel and husband Robbie; his brother Don Peter Matherne and wife Connie; his sister Sue Ellen Olin and husband Loyd; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Juanice "Niecey" Cockerham Matherne; his son Clint Jennings; his grandson Michael Braud; his parents Irvin Peter and Della Rhodes Matherne; his grandparents Farmand & Laurentine Matherne Matherne and Luke & Corinne Authement Rhodes.
Services were held October 30th in the Bayou Blue United Methodist Church, followed by interment in the Rogers Cemetery in Bayou Blue.
