U.S. Civil War Veteran
Enlisted as a private, Company E, Wisconsin 2nd Infantry Regiment.
Promoted to 2nd Lieutenant in 1862. Promoted to Captain soon after.

Wounded at Gettysburg, fought at Bull Run and Antietam.

Ebenezer was a lawyer and state legislator in Wisconsin prior to the Civil War. He came to Dakota Territory in 1882 and was Ellendale's first lawyer. He was editor and owner, along with his son Hector, of the North Dakota Record newspaper.

His first wife, Sophia White from Rushford, NY, died in Wisconsin prior to 1866.
