He was very patriotic and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, retired from Ford Motor Company after 33 years service, and belonged to the UAW Local #1250.
He devoted his life to his family and Bluegrass Music. He promoted bluegrass music for over 20 years, including O.J. Work Auditorium in Wadsworth, Ohio. He received the Bluegrass Man of the Year Award on August 18. He truly was, the #1 Bluegrass Fan, he especially loved the Bluegrass Mountaineers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Windwright and Spicy Adkins; daughter, Tonna Poe; brothers, Chester, Joe, Elmo, William and Eli; sisters, Maimie and Mary.
He is survived by his loving, caring, wife, Charlotte; son, Kevin Grady (Lisa) Adkins; daughters, Lisa (Larry) Efaw, Linda Frye (Donny), Michele Steede; sisters, Ethel Little, Mint (Emil) Ratliff, Mattie Brown; fifteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and special friends Sherley and Alice Freed.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, August 23, 2007 at the Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd., (Route 619) . Calling hours will be Wednesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Interment Greenlawn Memorial Park with graveside military honors performed by the American Legion Post #449. (Schermesser-Green 330-724-9351.)
