Mr. Melvin Lloyd James, age 77, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Memorial Health University Medical Center surrounded by his family. The Toombs County native had lived in Chatham and Tattnall Counties most of his life. He was a 1956 Reidsville High School graduate and had worked with Frank McCall Service Station and Funeral Home. While residing in Chatham County he was employed with Atlantic Discount and Haverty’s Furniture. He eventually returned to Tattnall County where he retired as a sergeant from Roger’s Correctional Institute after twenty two years of service. Mr. James lived for his family as one of his favorite past times was watching his grandchildren play in there sporting activities. He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Cuba James.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sondra James of Collins; children, Nancy (David) Thomson of Savannah, Richard (Rhonda) James of Reidsville, Randy James of McIntosh County, and Brent James of Elijay; brother, Floyd (Dolores) James of Reidsville; eleven grandchildren, five great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends beginning at 6:00pm on Thursday from the funeral home. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00am Friday, March 18, 2016 from the Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home & Crematory with the Reverend Chuck Jonas officiating. Interment will follow in the Lyons City Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Richard James, David Thomson, Randy James, Brent James, Brandon James, and RL James.
