Lester Michael "Mike" Watkins, 69, retired Lieutenant with the Hutchinson Police Department, passed away Monday March 14, 2016.
He was born in Shattuck, Oklahoma to Merl Robert and Ruth E. (McCulloch) Watkins. He attended high school in Maize, Kansas later attending Hutchinson Jr College, and McPherson College where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Phycology. Mike served his country in the Marines during the Vietnam War. He worked for the Hutchinson Police Department for over 28 years, retiring as a Lieutenant in 1997. He then worked for the County Attorney's office for 14 years as a Diversion Officer. He enjoyed coaching Cub ball, up to American Legion ball and was a host for the NJCAA Basketball Tournaments for 13 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Karen, sons; Michael J. (Kathleen Kubida) Watkins, and Kenneth D. Watkins, Troy (Tracie) England, grandchildren; Ryan, Ian, Tatumn, Lachlan, Brock, Kayla, Jakeb and Samuel .
Book signing will be Friday from 9 A.M. until 9 P.M.
Memorial service will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday March 19, 2016 at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel.
