Haverhill Boy Killed In Home Farm Mishap

A 15-year old youth was accidentally crushed to death at 5:45 p. m. yesterday as he leaned out of the family car while driving in Haverhill farmyard.

Melvin Harold Adler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hilbert Adler, was leaning out behind an open car door as he drove the car back and forth to get some tire chains adjusted in the family farmyard. His foot slipped from the clutch and the car lurched forward. The open door struck a tree and crushed Melvin's chest and neck between the door and the body of the car, killing him instantly.

Melvin was a junior in Rochester senior high school, and was well-known among students as champion school wrestler last year and this year. He was born June 12, 1932, at Millville. When Melvin was 10 years old the family moved to Haverhill township.

Survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hilbert Adler, a sister, Mrs. Clifford Reitter of Oronoco and a brother, Norman of Haverhill.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p. m. at home and at 2 p. m. Wednesday at the Evangelical and Reformed church in Rochester with Rev. Ralph Hunger officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood cemetery.
