FUNERAL SUNDAY FOR MRS. CHRISTINA BANKS
Mrs. Christina Commean Banks died of pneumonia three after days illness in Milwaukie, Oregon, on March 23rd at the age of 66 years and two months. Mrs. Banks was born in Du Quoin on January 23, 1878, and spent her entire lifetime here except for a short time in Arkansas and Oregon.
Mrs. Banks nee Christina Stanhouse, was married in Pickneyville to Elmer Commean on March 25, 1896, and to this union nine children were born, 3 dying in infancy. Surviving children are: Walter Commean, Wilbur Commean, Charles Commean and Marion Commean, all of Du Quoin, William Commean of St. Louis, MO, and Mrs Ileen Hawk of Chicago.
She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, Two grandsons are in the armed forces, one serving the army in South Africa and one serving the navy in the Pacfic area.
Elmer Commean passed away November 21, 1939, and Mrs. Commean was married on January 9, 1943 to Homer S. Banks of Milwaukie, Oregon who survives her. She moved to Oregon soon after her marriage.
Surviving brothers and sisters are: Walter Stanhouse, Amos Stanhouse, John Stanhouse, Tom Stanhouse, Mrs. V.C. Morriss and Mrs.Charles Davis,all of Du Quoin. Two sisters, Mrs. Josephine Edison and Mrs. Barbara Brayfield are deceased.
Mrs. Banks was a member of the Christian church where her funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 2nd, with the Rev. Otis McQuary officiating. Interment will be in the White Church cemetery.
