Ione DeMille Heaton, age 98, of Roosevelt, passed away on Friday, March 11, 2016 at the Sr. Villa. Ione was born August 15, 1917 in St. George to Oscar and Josephine Higgins DeMille. She grew up in Rockville. She married Gordon Lundquist Heaton on September 14, 1944 in the St. George LDS Temple. He died July 8, 1991. Ione loved the outdoors, she delighted in spending time with her family, camping, hunting, riding with her sons in an utility terrain vehicle, any family outing, and also going anywhere in a motor home. She was an avid reader, had a beautiful manicured yard, winning the Salt Lake Tribune Award of Merit for Outstanding Achievement during the Civic Beatification Program in 1993, and the Roosevelt City Beautification Award in 1994. She was a talented artist and painted over 60 pictures that her family will cherish. She liked to sew, cook, quilt, and travel. She was known for her wonderful sense of humor and witty personality, and, even to the end, found joy in laughter. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and served two missions with her sweetheart, Gordon, serving in the Whiterocks Indian Mission and at the Oakland Temple Visitor Center. She worked as a temple worker for many years in the Provo Temple. She held many church positions through the years, serving as both a Relief Society and Primary President. She belonged to a family home evening group for about 30 years and appreciated the friendships that were shared. She is survived by her children, Kirk G. (Karen) Heaton, Vernal; Jonnie W. (Karla) Heaton, Ballard; Kevin L. (LouAnn) Heaton, Roosevelt; 17 grandchildren, and 52 great-grandchildren with 3 more on the way. She was preceded in death by her husband Gordon, children, Janna Svarczkopf, Renae Heaton, all of her brothers and sisters and a grandson, Tyson Heaton. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 18, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the Roosevelt 4th Ward LDS Chapel. A viewing will be held 1 hour prior to the service. Burial in the Roosevelt Memorial Park under direction of the Hullinger Mortuary.
