Craig was born in Flint, Michigan on March 2, 1966, the son of Marvin and Mary Alice (Allie) Stephenson. He grew up an athlete, finding his niche in hockey at an early age. He continued to play throughout his adult life as his love for the sport grew. He started the Flushing High School girls Lacrosse program and was the coach for four years. Craig owned and operated Stephenson Corp., a roofing company for 20 years. Despite all of his success, his greatest accomplishment was his children. May his legacy be passed down through his grandchildren.

Craig is survived by his children, Shane Stephenson, Molly and husband Tim Schultz, and Allie Stephenson with his first wife, Jennifer; and Easton Stephenson with his second wife, Leah, who preceded him in death on March 3, 2016. He is also survived by his father, Marvin; brothers, Scott and wife Sherri and Brad and wife Colleen; six grandchildren, Peyton, Presley, Sawyer, Paisley, Lennon, Halen; nieces and nephews, Mackenzie, Garrett, Brock, Joshua, Ava, Trace and Liam. Craig was also preceded in death by his mother, Mary Alice.
