Served to the end of the war.
Residence LaFayette, Alabama"

Along with enlistment information;

Alabama Pension #25529 granted at Chambers County -- witnessed by D.M. Spense and W.W. Still (Both of Company I); Appears on Muster Roll of "Company 'I' 37th Regiment, Alabama Volunteers at LaFayette, Chambers County, Alabama, March 6, 1862" published in 31 July 1901 issue of LaFayette Sun (LaFayette, Chambers County AL) with Privates as "Barber, Alex M"

Death of Mr. Milton Barber

Mr. Milton Barber died at his residence near Chapel Hill last Friday and was buried at the Sweet Home Cemetery on Saturday. Rev. J. T. Self conducting the funeral services.

Mr. Barber was 72 years of age, an old citizen highly respected by all who knew him. He leaves a widow and six children: Lovie, Brittain, and Rev. Olin Barber; Mrs. Pierce Yeargan, Misses Cornelia and Ethel Barber."

According to Brack, in the "Survey of Cemeteries in Chambers County, Alabama" there is a tombstone in the Sweet Home United Methodist Church Cemetery that reads: "Alexander M. Barber, July 9, 1844 – Jan. 7, 1916, Co. I, 37th Ala. Inf., C.S.A." He is buried with several other members of the Barber Family.

NOTE: One Barber family member contends that Alexander M. Barber and Milton Barber were brothers to one another and not the same man; however, no supporting data has been provided to the editor to disprove that the names Alexander M. Barber, Alex M. Barber, A.M. Barber, and Milton Barber were not used interchangeably by a single individual.
