U.S. Veteran Arthur “Art” Manning, 84, of Staples, MN passed away peacefully with his family by his side Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Lakewood Health System Care Center in Staples, MN. Funeral services for Arthur will be 10:00AM, Monday, March 21, 2016 at the Church of Christ in Staples with Pastor Barry Klein officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation from 2:00-5:00PM, Sunday, March 20, 2016 at the church and one hour prior to services. Interment will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Little Falls, MN. Military Honors provided by Motley American Legion Post #124.

Arthur was born June 18, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan to Everett and Hannah (Balf) Manning. He moved with his family to Minnesota in 1944 and graduated from Staples High School in 1950. Art served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Art was united in marriage to Dolores Ackerson on April 20, 1954 at the Casino Assembly of God Church near Pillager, MN. He worked at National T and then Ernie’s as a Meat Cutter/Manager for 40+ years. Art retired in April of 1997. He enjoyed his time as a trainer for Golden Gloves and was active in the Boy Scouts of America for many years. Art enjoyed his church family and served as a Sunday school teacher and an Elder at the Staples Church of Christ. He was active on the Staples City Council; and was thrilled to see the completion of the Staples overpass during his lifetime. He served several years on the Board of Directors for Mid- Minnesota Federal Credit Union. Art enjoyed being active in the community and he loved people. He enjoyed playing cards with his Wednesday card club, fishing-especially ice fishing, with his son, Tim. Art enjoyed visiting and fellowship with people. He has been heard saying, “I so enjoy visiting with people”. Art loved all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He and Dolores raised four wonderful children.

Art is survived by his wife, Dolores; children, Susan (Dale) Adams of Aldrich, MN, Pamela (Joseph) DuBay of Richfield, MN, Timothy (Jenny) Manning of Browerville, MN, Debra (Peter) Fink of Staples, MN; siblings, Robert Manning of St. Paul, MN, Ronald Manning of Palm Springs, CA,; brother in law, James Ackerson of Motley, MN; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Hannah Manning; and his sister, Ann Ludovissie. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples, MN.
